Determiners are words that tell us more about a noun. They indicate which person or thing it is, to whom it belongs, and how many there are.

Examples: a, an, the, this, that, these, those, much, many, their.

Types of Determiners

Types of Determiners
  1. Articles

A and an does not point out any particular or definite person or thing.

Example: I saw a girl eating an orange.

The is used when we talk of some particular person or thing.

Example: The boy is fat.

  • This, that, these, those.

This and that is singular.

This refers to things near us, whereas that refers to things far away from us.

These and those are plural.

These is used for things near us, and those is used for things far away from us.

Examples:

This picture is beautiful.

These apples are for you.

That dress is expensive.

Those people are Australians.

  • Few, little.

A little is used with uncountable noun.

Example: a little water, a little money.

A few is used with plural noun:

Example: few students, few chairs.
