Kinds of Sentences are classified according to their purpose.
There are 4 kinds of sentences:
- Declarative (Assertive)
- Interrogative
- Imperative
- Exclamatory
Types of Sentences with Examples
Assertive or Declarative Sentence: A sentence that makes a statement or tells you something is called a declarative sentence.
Examples: He is dancing at the party.
They are washing clothes.
Interrogative Sentence: A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence. Examples: Is he a hardworking boy?
Why are you going to Paris?
Imperative Sentence: A sentence that gives a command or makes a request is called an imperative sentence.
Examples: Please give the dogs some food.
You must see a doctor.
Exclamatory Sentence: A sentence that expresses a strong feeling is called an exclamatory sentence.
Examples: Alas! They lost the match.
What a beautiful dress it is!
