AI Impact on Employment: Creating New Job Opportunities
AI has brought exponential growth, much faster than thought. Will Artificial Intelligence Create More Jobs is a controversial debate topic. But along with it has taken many jobs. Some people are of the notion that AI will take away jobs while others believe that it will create more jobs. I believe, AI may eliminate some traditional jobs, it will create new industries and careers that do not exist today. This debate on Artificial Intelligence and jobs explores whether AI impact on employment will lead to job creation or job loss in the future.
In 1984, The New York Times had a heading ‘The Factory of Tomorrow will not have any human.’ Due to automation, all the factory workers will be replaced by robots. The prediction of automation was right.
For instance, a financial analyst who knows how to run an Excel sheet and give presentations was replaced by AI. The lawyers who were experts in legal research and used to bill thousands of rupees to their clients, AI replaced their job. Moreover, AI has also replaced the work of content creators.
AI can easily make data-driven decisions. Jobs of an electrician, a carpenter, a plumber, and a welder.
Against the Motion (Will artificial intelligence create more jobs):AI Will Take Away Jobs
- Automation will replace human workers
Machines are getting faster, cheaper, and smarter. Most of the factories are running with no human oversight. Self-driving trucks are redefining logistics. Even jobs like customer support are handled by AI Chatbots. In the next decade every industry will feel the impact. Automation had brought disruption but also innovation and efficiency.
- Low-skilled workers will suffer the most
The blue-collar jobs, which are mechanical in nature, will suffer. Jobs like cashier work and basic customer support are easily automated, which will lead to unemployment among less qualified workers. AI can easily make data-driven decisions. With the help of AI, one can make intelligent automated decision-making. It is reliable at making accurate decisions. An AI system can learn and improve. It can analyse the outcome of past decisions.
Job creation will be slower than job loss – Though AI will create jobs, those jobs are going to be very few. Though AI cannot compensate for the large number of traditional jobs. AI will create a major shift in the types of jobs performed. The workforce will need to continuously adapt and upskill to remain employed.
Widening gap between rich and poor – Countries that are developed can easily get the benefits and have the majority of productivity gains. Moreover, in other nations, people who will be able to buy AI software to improve their productivity will benefit, but those who can’t will be left behind. Artificial intelligence will reward those who can effectively leverage AI technology.

For the Motion: AI Will Create More Jobs
- AI will create new types of jobs – we cannot escape the fact that AI will replace millions of jobs, though it will also create multiple jobs, especially in the tech industry. Jobs like prompt engineers, data managers, ethics and governance specialists, cyber security specialists, cloud computing engineers, AI product manager, AI instructors, and human machine interaction designer.
- Humans are needed to build, manage, and improve AI – AI systems require human experts to design, supervise, maintain, and control them. Humans provide the necessary ethical judgment and emotional intelligence that machines lack. AI cannot interpret nuanced situations. The AI-driven processes need to be guided by human innovation and creativity. For example, a therapist’s job is to find a new context and a new situation in every conversation. They make an emotional connection with the patient and find a new childhood discovery. The patient’s behaviour is highly unpredictable. Jobs that require full intelligence, such as physical, emotional, and problem-solving intelligence, will not be taken over by AI because when these three things combine, things become highly unpredictable. Humans need to optimize AI for accuracy, speed, and insight.
- AI increases productivity and business growth – AI eliminates manual processes and improves collaboration, and it helps to scale businesses effectively. AI projects are concentrated in big Tech companies. AI systems can be applied to many users to generate a massive amount of revenue. AI systems are good at spotting patterns when given access to the right data. AI can help in demand forecasting, product placement, sales growth
- AI supports human creativity rather than replacing it – AI can help to generate unique concepts, create abstract patterns, generate unique compositions, and AI-generated text prompts can enhance the writing process. AI can also help to compose melodies and harmonies. Artists can help themselves in an innovative way with the help of AI.
- New industries will emerge due to AI – AI will give birth to new industries like AI ethics, governance and compliance industry, skill transformation industry, prompt engineering and AI interaction design, AI cybersecurity and deepfake protection, and AI healthcare and bio-intelligence industry. Other industries like AI operations and automation services and AI sustainability and climate tech industry will also emerge.
To reiterate, AI is perfect to a large extent as long as there is repetition. But the real world is unpredictable. Whatever happens in the real world is never repeated. Human intelligence is capable of navigating through the changes. Jobs that require human adaptability, human connection, emotional, physical, and intellectual capabilities those jobs will be the hardest to be replaced by AI. AI will not take jobs; it will only make jobs better for people. They will use AI to enhance their work. The real challenge is not job loss, but how quickly people can reskill to work alongside Artificial Intelligence.
