As if can used in the following ways:

• You can use as though instead of as if.

• I can hear someone talking outside our house. It looks as if guests have arrived.
• The handkerchief smells as if it has been used by someone.

• You can use as if with other verbs to say how somebody does something.
• After the disturbance in the class, the teacher carried on teaching as if nothing had happened.
• When I told them what happened yesterday, they looked as if they were shocked.
• After as if we can use the past when we talk about the present.
• She talks as if she knew everything.

We can use as if to say how somebody or something looks, sounds, or feels.
