1. What Is the Difference Between So and Such?
The difference between so and such is: –
I didn’t enjoy the movie.
The movie was so boring.
We use so +adjective /adverb.
So beautiful
So confused
So tired
So quick
I didn’t enjoy the movie.
It was such a boring movie.
We use such + noun:
Such a story
Such a noise
Such behaviour
We use such + adjective + noun:
- Such a nice boy.
- Such an interesting book.
So and such make the meaning of an adjective (or adverbs) stronger.
- It’s a sunny day, isn’t it. It’s so hot. (=really hot).
- I can’t listen to him sing because he sings so badly.
- We enjoyed our trip. We had such a good time. (=a really good time).
Compare so and such in these sentences:
- I like Ram and Ravi. They are so nice.
- I like Ram and Ravi. They are such nice boys.
You can use such…that……………
- The day was so beautiful that we decided to go for a picnic.
- The exam was so difficult that only ten students passed.
You can leave out that in sentences like this:-
- I was so worried (that) I went to see her.
Difference between so and such
