A noun can be countable and Uncountable.
Countable
- I eat an apple every day.
- I like apples.
Apple is a countable noun because we can count the number of apples.
A countable noun can be singular (apple) or plural (apples).
Hence, countable nouns are things we can count. So, we can say ‘one apple’, ‘two apples’.
Examples of Nouns usually countable:
- Sita is writing a letter.
- There’s a park near here.
- Have you got a ten-dollar note?
- There are no books in the cupboard.
- We have got sufficient chairs.
Uncountable Nouns
- I eat meat every day.
- I like meat.
Meat is an uncountable noun. A countable noun cannot be counted, and it has only one form (meat).
We cannot say ‘one meat’, ‘two meat’, etc.
Examples of nouns are usually uncountable.
- There’s water in my bag.
- It was his bad luck that he met with an accident.
- There’s sand in that bucket.
