Debate Can AI replace teachers

The debate over whether AI can replace teachers takes us into a new realm of discussion. Some argue that Artificial Intelligence (AI) identifies how a student learns best, adapts to the teaching styles in real-time, provides feedback without judgment, fosters long-term learning growth, and removes the fear of failure from the minds of students. But others are of the notion that AI cannot replace teachers because they form an emotional connection with the students, they give moral education and personal guidance to students, they manage classrooms, and are an inspiration for the students.

Education was built for the industrial era. Schools were designed to produce obedient factory workers, not innovators and thinkers. Our education system forces students to memorize instead of analyze. Unfortunately, it punishes those who learn differently. It fails to teach critical thinking and real-world skills.

With the advent of AI the future of work, creativity, and human intelligence is evolving. Forcing kids to sit in a row of desks and make them listen to lectures no longer leads to real education. It’s the old system of education. Remember AI is not the enemy, it is the key to the revolution.

5 Points For AI can Replace Teachers (Debate)

  1. AI identifies how a student learns best. AI can adjust to the student’s learning speed. It will not force a student to keep pace with the syllabus. AI doesn’t make a student afraid to ask questions. Students can shed their fear of looking stupid in front of others. AI makes learning a safe place to fail. It is not possible for a teacher to identify and implement how every student learns best in a class of 60 students.
  2. AI can adapt the teaching styles in real time. Every student has his or her own learning speed. Some students learn best with images and diagrams, some learn easily by listening, while others need hands-on-engagement. Moreover, some students are neurodivergent, AI helps in adapting to those students as well. It gives personalized learning to every student. Human beings need time to comprehend and adapt. They get fatigued and it becomes difficult for them to change teaching style in real time as they need time for preparation.
  3. AI provides instant feedback without judgment. AI is programmed to adapt to students’ mistakes. It doesn’t punish a student. It provides real-time feedback to a student. The student is not scared to fail. AI is capable of adjusting according to the difficulty level of students, and when it gives feedback, it does not judge the student. On the other hand, some teachers may judge a student as weak or poor in a subject. Some students may feel that a teacher is biased, and so this may harm the learning ability of the children.
  4. AI also tracks the long-term learning growth of the student. It makes learning experimental. It teaches students real-world problem-solving and provides interactive simulations. This makes the students rediscover the joy of learning. A student learns different subjects, which are often taught by multiple teachers. Hence, if the coordination is poor among the teacher they may not keep track of the long term learning growth of the students.
  5. It removes fear of failure and replaces it with curiosity. When fear is removed from education, students rediscover the joy of learning. It provides an adaptive environment for the student. It does not have a one-size-fits-all concept of teaching. It takes into account learning speed, preferred learning method, and personal interest of the student.

5 Point Against AI can Replace Teachers (Debate)

  1. Emotional Connection – a teacher understands the emotions and struggles of a student. An AI cannot replicate the emotions of a real teacher. Many students struggle to learn online. They prefer a real teacher who can teach and guide them. For instance, many students preferred to come to my home to study so that they can learn from a real person rather than online on the internet. On the other hand, AI may speak in a scripted tone, which may lack emotion.
  2. Moral and value education – Teachers impart moral values to students. They teach students honesty, loyalty, respect, humility, kindness, discipline, and empathy. These values are taught not only for academic knowledge, but also to prepare learners for the challenges of life. They help them to be better human beings. Behavioural education is crucial for children, and a teacher can teach them to behave nicely. A teacher can make learning fun through storytelling. She can express herself through body language and facial expression, where children can imagine the characters of the story narrated, and they can relate to it.
  3. Personal guidance – A teacher can act as a supportive mentor, listen to students, set clear goals, and model positive behaviour for students. Many students consider teachers their role models. They understand the world from their point of view. One-on-one teaching can help them learn difficult subjects. For example, when I was a kid, I struggled with Mathematics. But with my teacher’s help, I could overcome the fear of that subject from my mind. I scored good marks in Mathematics too.
  4. Inspiration and mentorship – AI cannot replace the human impact of a teacher. A teacher is a mentor for students. Students look up to their teachers when they face any difficulty in understanding any topic. A teacher helps the students to be a better version of themselves. Many students want to become teachers when they grow up, and do you know the real reason behind it? It is because they like the work of a teacher and the respect she gets from others. A teacher is an inspiration for students who helps them to become better human beings.
  5. Classroom management – teachers handle discipline, teamwork, and social interaction among students. AI cannot manage an entire class. A teacher greets the students and builds a strong student-teacher bond. They conduct parent teacher meeting and inform the parents of the students about their progress. A teacher genuinely cares for her students, which an AI cannot.

Overall, AI cannot replace teachers totally. It can become an asset in the learning journey of students. If children become too dependent on AI then this could stifle their mental growth. A teacher can be an inspiration and a role model for students, but an AI can just assist a student in learning.
